Just Do It
The time has come to write a villanelle.
Stop whimpering and making lame excuses -
just do it. You don't have to do it well.
It doesn't matter if you don't excel
in the first instance: beggars can't be choosers.
The time has come to write a villanelle
because you must do something to dispel
the fear that you have no creative juices.
Just do it - you don't have to do it well.
No point in trying to be TS Eliot
or Wendy Cope. The truth is
your turn has come to write a villanelle.
So what if it is mostly doggerel,
in which good rhyme and scansion prove elusive?
Just do it. You don't have to do it well.
And if it turns out nonsense, what the hell.
You know how useless waiting for the muse is.
Tote that bale! Write that villanelle!
Just do it. You don't have to do it well.
